Since June 2023, Chris Campbell has led BetterLife as Board Chair, Chief Executive Officer, and President. Before joining BetterLife, he served as President of eFinancial, a leading direct-to-consumer life insurance agency, from 2017 to 2021. From 2010 to 2017, he held the position of Senior Vice President, Marketing & Communications at CNO Financial, a multi-channel life and annuity company. With over 25 years of experience in life insurance, Chris has worked with Farm Bureau Financial Services, Aviva, Allstate, and CNA Insurance. He brings deep strategy and marketing expertise and has also led sales, operations, analytics, and IT organizations.
Chris actively engages in philanthropic efforts, currently serving on the boards of the National MS Society as Vice President, Wisconsin Chapter, and Federal Home Loan Bank Member Advisory Committee, as well as treasurer of LaSalle Street Church. He has previously served as Chairman of Meals on Wheels Chicago, as a board member of WFYI (Indianapolis Public Radio), and as Chairman of the LIMRA Marketing Conference, the life insurance industry’s largest event. He regularly participates in World Vision’s efforts in Tanzania with his wife and two daughters. An avid science fiction fan, Chris believes it encourages us to reach for a better world while staying grounded in reality. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College and his Master of Business Administration degree from Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
As Senior Vice President of Operations at BetterLife, Maryann Crossan leads the organization’s operations, compliance, and member service functions, helping ensure BetterLife delivers an exceptional experience for members while supporting the organization’s long-term growth and mission.
Maryann brings more than 15 years of experience in the life insurance industry, having built her career from an entry-level operations role to executive leadership. Throughout her career, she has led teams across new business, case management, licensing and contracting, quality assurance, talent acquisition, and business operations. She is known for developing strong leaders, improving operational performance, and creating scalable processes that keep people at the center of every decision.
Drawn to BetterLife’s mission and member-first culture, Maryann believes the best organizations are built by investing in people, embracing continuous improvement, and never losing sight of those they serve. She is an active member of the Life Insurance Distribution and Marketing Association (LIDMA) planning committee and enjoys collaborating with industry leaders to help shape the future of life insurance.
Outside of work, Maryann enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, traveling, and appreciating the slower pace and sense of community that come with living in Montana.
As Chief Financial Officer at BetterLife, Leanna guides financial strategy, oversees budgeting and reporting, and helps ensure we continue to grow in ways that support our mission and serve our members. She’s known for helping organizations make clear, informed choices—qualities that will benefit our member-owned community.
Leanna brings over 20 years of experience in the insurance and benefits administration industries, with a strong background in financial strategy, planning, and analysis. She’s held leadership roles at a variety of companies where she focused on building strong financial systems and supporting long-term growth. When asked what brought her to BetterLife, Leanna shared that she was “drawn to BetterLife because of its community impact, deep values, and member-focused culture,” and felt called to join a team that cares deeply about both performance and people.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Yura, and their two teenage sons. She’s also a football enthusiast, co-commissioner of a fantasy football league, and is currently perfecting her grilling and smoking skills—hosting taste tests for friends and family.
Matt Mikulcik serves as Chief Strategy & Technology Officer at BetterLife, where he leads the organization’s strategic growth, innovation, and technology initiatives. With more than 25 years of experience in the financial services and insurance industries, he brings a strong combination of strategic vision, analytical expertise, and leadership to the executive team.
Before joining BetterLife, Matt held leadership roles at Citi, BMO, Discover, and CNO Financial Group, leading initiatives across analytics, marketing, product development, strategy, and talent acquisition. Known for his collaborative and adaptable leadership style, he has successfully guided global, hybrid, and distributed teams through growth and transformation while maintaining a focus on results and innovation.
Matt earned a Master of Science in Applied Statistics from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Risk Management from Illinois Wesleyan University. Outside of work, he enjoys running, reading, playing games, and spending time with his wife and four daughters.
As Chief Distribution Officer at BetterLife, Dudley Simmons leads the organization’s national distribution strategy, focusing on expanding market reach, enhancing agent development, and fostering community engagement to support company growth. With more than three decades of sales and marketing leadership experience, he is widely recognized for driving profitable growth, increasing market share, and building high-performing, purpose-driven teams.
Before joining BetterLife, Dudley served as South Zone Vice President at Combined Insurance of America, a Chubb Company, where he led a ten-state region and grew sales from $800,000 to $16 million in under three years. His earlier experience includes leadership roles at Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company and a distinguished 30-year career at American International Group (AIG), where he advanced through multiple executive positions, including Vice President of Field Transitions and Senior Regional Vice President.
A Chartered Leadership Fellow (CLF) and Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF), Dudley is passionate about professional development and mentorship, having inspired hundreds of managers and thousands of agents throughout his career. His leadership philosophy—“Better Means Belonging”—reflects his commitment to building inclusive teams and serving the communities BetterLife supports.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Dudley enjoys life with his wife, Eva, their two daughters, and two granddaughters, along with their chocolate lab, Oaks.
