BetterLife Announces Merger with WSA Fraternal Life, Building on More Than a Century of Shared Roots in Service to Families
Today, BetterLife announced a definitive agreement to merge with WSA Fraternal Life, a member-owned, fraternal benefit society founded in 1908 and headquartered in Westminster, Colorado. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.
Upon completion, WSA Fraternal Life and BetterLife will move forward together with a shared mission to help members protect their families’ financial futures, build better lives, and better their communities.
WSA Fraternal Life was originally chartered in 1908 as the Western Slavonic Association by Eastern European immigrants working in the mines of the Rocky Mountains who pooled resources to protect one another’s families. For more than 115 years, the organization has carried that founding commitment forward, serving members through life insurance, annuity products, scholarships, charitable giving, and an active lodge system.
“WSA’s story is remarkably close to our own,” said Chris Campbell, Chief Executive Officer of BetterLife. “BetterLife’s earliest roots trace back to the same tradition: communities coming together to protect families in times of need. WSA’s commitment to its members and communities for more than a century makes this a natural partnership. We’re proud to welcome WSA into the BetterLife community.”
Following legal close, WSA Fraternal Life will become part of BetterLife and continue to maintain its lodges, scholarship program, charitable giving initiatives, and local activities. BetterLife will provide financial strength, operational support, and long-term stability to help sustain the traditions that have defined WSA since its founding. Members will be able to continue to participate in the same fraternal activities and programs they value today.
“For more than a century, WSA has been built on the belief that we are stronger when we look out for one another,” said Randy Fuss, President and CEO of WSA Fraternal Life. “That belief is at the heart of everything we do, from our lodge activities to the financial protection we provide our members. In BetterLife, we see an organization that shares those same values and has the resources and vision to help us carry them forward. We are confident this partnership will strengthen what our members count on most while opening new opportunities for the communities we serve.”
BetterLife and WSA Fraternal Life currently expect the transaction to close December 2026, pending regulatory approval, with full integration anticipated by mid-2027.
